For a very long time, Huawei has been running red hot with a long list of great smartwatch launches. You have Watch 3, GT, and now the GT 2. All of them have been a step in the right direction for Huawei that has pushed great hardware and strong build quality as its USP.

With the smartwatch and wearables market blowing up, Huawei has tried to stick to the basics and do away with anything superfluous. In this article, we are going to find out whether that was a good thing to do, or should Huawei go back.

If you notice what is happening in the smartwatch world, you will notice that it is Apple with its OS on one side and everyone else (Tizen- Samsung, Lite OS- Huawei, Wear OS- Google) on the other side. To be honest, none of them have been able to take on Apple!

Huawei Watch GT 2: More than a capable attempt

Huawei Watch GT 2: More than a capable attempt

First things first. Huawei Watch GT was a fantastic product. It took the world by storm and showed everyone that a smartwatch is capable of looking, feeling, and working with a traditional watch. While there were many positives, the lack of software packing the right punch was felt. Has Huawei with Watch GT 2 been able to change that?

Well, yes; to an extent. In terms of hardware that is not much to notice. In fact, you get the same 42 mm and 46 mm housing. To be honest, that did not need to be changed. It looked and felt amazing, to begin with, the Watch GT.

With Watch GT 2, the real changes lie internally. Huawei has listened to multiple threads, forums, and opinions and really gone to town with the improvements.

With a brightly lit AMOLED display, you get an amazing resolution (326 PPI to be exact). In fact, the display combined with the good looks is going to be enough for many interested customers. While 46 mm might sound a lot, the watch is very light.

Power, Performance, and Software in Huawei’s Watch GT 2

While the looks have not been tinkered with, the real changes have happened in the software and performance areas.

  • The first thing you should know is that Watch GT 2 is powered by Huawei’s own Kirin A1 Chipset. This is a good thing since Huawei has invested heavily in making this new processor the heart of most of its wearables.
  • You get a satisfactory 2 GBs worth of RAM along with 4 GB of hard storage. This is sufficient for apps and music files to be honest. In real-world tests, the storage was good enough for 500 songs on the smartwatch.
  • In terms of connectivity options, you get Bluetooth 5.1. You also get GPS tracking and functionalities that can help with directions, locations, and more. However, the smartwatch misses out on NFC.
  • Huawei has a powered Watch GT 2 with its own Lite OS. We did not feel that this was not a big deal. However, if you compare it to Apple, then you would be noticing some things. The Lite OS is very capable and offers a very fluid interface and experience.
  • You get both Android and iOS syncing on offer. This means that you can hook it up to any smartphone that you are using. You will have to use the Huawei Health App to log in and view the data from your fitness and activities.

Did you know that the Watch GT 2 has a speaker that is quite loud? Yes, you read that right. Apart from this, you get all your fitness tools and routines. This is a great fitness tracker and takes care of practically everything you will ever need.

The Bottom Line

Is Watch GT 2 an advancement over Watch GT? Truth be told, it is. In fact, it is one of the major improvements, especially in areas like software, engagement, and experience. The interactions are richer and you feel more satisfied. There has been so much saying about its excellent battery life, that we will not care to discuss that here. What you should know is that one charge would be good enough to last two weeks!
