As we approach the end of the year, Meta is to come up with another major offering for its EU users. This December, Threads will be available to Meta’s EU users. Meta is confident that Threads will now meet all new DSA regulations.
At the launch of Threads, Twitter’s Alternative app from Meta, it was not available to EU users. Meta took this stance because of the changing security scenarios and guidelines of the region. Further, the Threads team conducted necessary assessments and, before making the app available for EU users, made sure that everything was according to the new DSA regulations.
According to the Wall Street Journal report,
To comply with [EU] regulations, Meta will give EU users the choice of using Threads purely for consumption without a profile that allows them to make their own posts.
As per recent developments, Meta’s Threads will now offer data opt-out in compliance with DSA regulations. At the same time, users will now be able to create a profile and use the application like any other user. In addition, for the EU release of the application, there have been many code updates at the backend.
The availability of Meta’s Threads platform in the EU will give the growing popularity of the app a further boost. In other words, Meta wants to increase the user base of Threads as much as possible. This is, again, an opportune moment as many users of the X platform are now quitting. Meta wants to fill that void and attract users to its platform by making the Threads platform available in the European Union.
Also, the holiday season is here, and people are likely to spend more time on social media. So, Meta is trying to make the Threads platform available to as many people as possible.
